Block Printing

KASSIDY SCHEFF

For this project we were given a easy cut block and a lino cutter. We drew a design on the block then we used a lino cutter and carved out our design into the block. Then we put ink onto the block and put paper over our design. I really enjoyed this project cause it was really simple, yet really fun.

Mono Print

KASSIDY SCHEFF

For this project we did what is called a mono print. This is where we were given a jelly pad, paper, paint, and tools. First we had to make an experimental print before we could make our final print. To begin the process you had to take a jelly pad and put paint on it, then you would press your first color onto a piece of paper. Second, you would clean off your previous paint and put your second color on the jelly pad, and then you would place shapes on your second color. Then you would clean off that paint again, and place your third color on the jelly pad and place shapes onto the paint, and then you press the paper onto the jelly pad. I really enjoyed this project although, I had to do it 3 times to get it to look good.

 Silkscreen printing

KASSIDY SCHEFF

Silkscreen Printing is the process where you use a stencil to transfer a design somewhere else. For this project we made an individual design that we wanted to put on a shirt. Then you got put into groups and decided on a design that everyone in the group wanted. We chose Ethan's design, which was a cup pouring something out of it. For this process we made the design, transferred it onto a screen, then proceeded to put the print onto a shirt. For our shirt we also decided to tie dye to add a cool effect. Overall this project was really fun and I learned many new things.

Self-Portrait Linocut

KASSIDY SCHEFF

A lino cut is a design carved in relief on a block of linoleum. For this project we had to take a picture of ourselves. I took a picture of my hair. Then we printed the picture out and colored charcoal all over the back of the picture. Then I placed the picture, charcoal side down, on the linoleum block and traced my picture onto the block with a pencil. After, we were done tracing our photo onto the block we were given a linocettuer and carved out all the white spots. After I finished carving all the white spots out we then inked my lonoleum block. After we inked the block I had to put my piece through the press because i had such detailed lines. I really enjoyed this project, although my photo required a lot of time and detail, I am very happy with my outcome.

Dry point Etchings

KASSIDY SCHEFF

Dry point etching is where marks are engraved into a plate. For this process I was given a piece of plexiglass and then I put a photo i took and placed it under the plexiglass. Then I used a scribe`to engrave my photo into the plexiglass. I enjoyed the watercolor the most for this project.

Zine Book

ARTIST STATEMENT

A zine book is a self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images. For my zine book I chose the topic of planets. The reason I chose this topic was because I believe that the solar system is a very interesting topic. Throughout the course of this project I learned many things. My favorite thing I learned was how to make numerous textures using different utensils. I also learned how to stitch my book using a japanese stab binding. This was a very fun and interesting project!
